PETITION:

I hereby petition the Great State of Texas to pardon Jeff Callaway, Texas Outlaw Poet, for his non-violent felony offenses, and to name him as the Texas Poet Laureate. I know that he truly loves Texas with all his heart, as well as poetry. He has performed at open mics, artshows, festival and events all over this great state all the while building a substantial underground following. This year he will be releasing his first public full length collection of poems, loosely based on his experiences with past addictions, time spent incarcerated in Texas for his non-violent crimes, and poems, sonnets, and haikus about Texas itself. Poetry of which we find uplifting and inspiring. I would love for him to write for this great state many more poems about its history, culture, and wonderful folks! I would also hope that he might could share his past experiences through his poetry, like a public service announcement, if you will, in the hopes that others might learn from his mistakes. In exchange for this, I ask that he be pardoned of his crimes and made Texas Poet Laureate. In short it would be an honor to have Texas Outlaw Poet, Jeff Callaway, represent me as Texas Poet Laureate!!!

ABOUT TEXAS OUTLAW POET, JEFF CALLAWAY:

Jeff Callaway was born in 1976 in Athens, TX. Since then he has attempted to tour every bar and every jail-house in this great state. Fortunately he shares his experiences through his edgy southern poetry that can be as sultry as Texas itself.

Jeff has written five chapbooks and two full-length volumes, all published by Austin publisher Texas Outlaw Press. He has appeared at countless open mics and performed many spoken word events since 2003. He recently had his first art show of original work at the Hal Samples Space Gallery in Deep Ellum, displaying his many multi-media renderings of beer bottles.

Jeff joined the Mizta Ho team in 2010 and is slated to have his first release with Mizta Ho Productions by Jan. 2011.

He currently resides in Texas where he continues to perform, write, paint, live and love.
