Tell UK Immigration Minister: Don't Deport Trafficked Kids to Afghanistan

The Issue

As the number of unaccompanied Afgan children in the UK increases, British officials are trying to determine how to address the problem. But their latest solution -- deport the kids back to Afghanistan -- is poised to cause far more harm than good. That's because a number of the Afghan children who are found in the UK are child trafficking victims, and for them, deportation would mean a sentence to further abuse and exploitation back home.

Human rights advocates are concerned that the mass deportation of children to Afghanistan will pose a huge risk to their safety. For some, it will inevitably mean re-trafficking, either back to the UK or to another part of Europe. Others will face abuse at home, imprisonment, and even torture or death. Other children may be of Afghan decent, but have no family in Afghanistan to return to, as theirs may have fled to Pakistan, Iran, or other nearby countries. They may end up homeless.

If the UK moves forward with the decision to deport this group of children, it would mark a 180 degree shift in British immigration policy, which has traditionally stricly limited child deportations due to child protection issues and care arrangements for minors.

You can ask Immigration Minister Damian Green not to deport trafficked Afghan children.
