Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is well known throughout the country as a staunch opponent of immigration rights. With the power to enforce his version of the law, Joe Arpaio rules over his relatively small jurisdiction with impunity, targeting undocumented immigrants with zeal. He has thrown men and women in overcrowded jails, fed them rotting food, and defied numerous federal investigations into his conduct. Justifying his actions with old platitudes from the ultra conservative playbook, Arpaio's actions defy principles of human rights from which this country was founded.

There are approximately 8,000 inmates in Arpaio's jail cells, some or all of which have been victims of Arpaio's unconstitutional policies. Mr. Arpaio's history of aggressive raids, bombastic public statements, and overall disdain for immigrants in general has taught us Mr. Arpaio is no friend to the undocumented. He must face the hard truth that his distaste for immigrants and his circumvention of the law cannot continue any longer.
