With new offshore wind farm projects being discussed, now is the time to tell NY governor Paterson to move forward.

Long Island has already proven itself to be progressive with respect to renewable energy. A large number of the United States’ waste-to-energy plants exist in Long Island, and earlier this year, Long Island’s largest wind turbine was completed on the North Fork.  

Fortunately, governor Paterson recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Department of the Interior and nine other east coast governors to create an Atlantic Offshore Wind Energy Consortium. These actions are in line with NY’s goal to have 45% of its energy coming from renewable sources by 2015. In the works are plans for massive wind farms off the coast of Long Island, which promise to create jobs and help us ditch our dependence on dirty energy.

We need to tell governor Paterson that we can’t afford to hesitate. Will you send him a message urging him to move forward with offshore wind energy in Long Island?
