Tell Copenhagen Fashion Week: Ban Fur From the Runway

Tell Copenhagen Fashion Week: Ban Fur From the Runway

The Issue

Norway has recently become the first country to ban fur from its fashion week catwalk. This is great news for animals, but it hasn't been well received by everyone in Scandinavia.

Eva Kruse, CEO of the Danish Fashion Institute, criticized the decision, stating that she believes fur is "an integral part of Nordic culture and history."

The Danish Fashion Institute, which runs Copenhagen Fashion Week, works in partnership with Kopenhagen Fur. Kopenhagen Fur is the world's largest fur skin auction house and the centre of the international fur trade.

The conditions that animals endure at Kopenhagen fur farms are horrific. Animals become so stressed in small cages that they will often chew themselves or each other. These wounds are left untreated. Many animals are killed by anal electrocution to preserve the fur of the animal.

Fashion is no excuse for this cruelty.

Sign the petition urging Copenhagen Fashion Week to end their partnership with Kopenhagen fur and to consider going entirely fur-free in 2011.
