Tell Congress You Want Action On Global Warming

The Issue

The week of May 17th, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce will mark up The American Clean Energy and Security Act (H.R. 2454). This historic legislation will require polluters to pay for the costs of dumping harmful carbon pollution into the air, and will spur clean energy development, create new businesses and jobs, and protect treasured American landscapes for future generations.

Please use our letter below to let your Representative know that you support strong legislation that jumpstarts America's clean energy economy and addresses global warming. You may amend our letter as you see fit, then click on Send this message. As always, you can get more information about this legislation by clicking on the Tell me More link below.

H.R. 2454 lays the foundation for solving America's energy and climate challenges: including a firm limit on carbon pollution; support for renewable energy and a smart power grid; and standards and incentives for improving energy efficiency. Combined, these provisions will put Americans back to work building, delivering, and installing the systems and technologies to move us toward a clean energy future and reduce the threat of global warming.

In addition, the bill acknowledges the importance of conserving and restoring our natural resources. It creates programs that will enhance our understanding of global warming's effects on our lands, as well as our ability to protect these cherished assets. It dedicates significant funds to safeguard our natural resources from the impacts of a changing climate, allowing resource managers to engage in the long-term projects required to ensure our treasured landscapes and the species they support remain resilient for generations to come.

There's no doubt, global warming is affecting the world we live in and the wild lands we cherish.

Rising sea levels, shrinking wetlands and more frequent wildfires are just a few of the effects we're already seeing. Warmer temperatures also mean animals and plants are struggling to adapt as their habitats change. From the ice-dependent polar bear to the cold water trout, to the heat sensitive pika, species are under attack.

Our own lives will be profoundly impacted as well, if we don't get serious about fixing the problem.
Global warming threatens the health of ecosystems that provide tremendous benefits to our communities, from cleaning our air and water to buffering our coasts against erosion and floods.

Global warming also compromises the health of our public lands and their ability to store carbon and slow down the build-up of heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere.

Make no mistake, science tells us that time is not on our side, and powerful industry groups are spending millions in order to maintain the status quo of dirty fuels and a warming world. The good news is we still have a chance to tackle the worst effects of global warming and to preserve the ecosystems on which human health depends-but we need your help.

Please send a message to your Representative in support of H.R. 2454.
