Tell Vicksburg-Warren Humane Society & Mississippi Animal Rescue League All Dogs Deserve A Chance
The Issue
Update: December 14,2010- Despite the valiant efforts of Georgia Lynn and the Vicksburg-Warren Humane Society, the judge ordered all the dogs destroyed. Ms Lynn was devastated. The eight dogs had all been evaluated and one of the dogs was found to be fine with people and other dogs. Three others were somewhat dog aggressive but had the potential to overcome it. All eight dogs were destroyed. We appreciate Georgia Lynn trying to give these victims of cruelty a chance by allowing Game Dog Guardians to evaluate them.
Update: Georgia Lynn of Vicksburg-Warren Humane Society has been wonderful and has let Anthony Barnett from Game Dog Guardians come and evaluate the dogs. He concluded that 4 of the dogs might thrive in rescue organizations. The court will rule on the fate of the dogs on Monday. Thanks to all the change.org folks for signing the petition. The folks at the Mississippi Animal Rescue League still don't believe that the victims of cruelty deserve a chance.
Update 12-6-2010 the judge postponed the forfeiture hearing. When it does occur if he rules in the dogs favor they will need places to go with the dogs. One rescue group in California has already agreed to take one dog, we just need to find places for the other 3 - IF the judge allows them to live. If you volunteer with a rescue group and could possibly take one of these victims of cruelty please contact edfritz@bestfriends.org.
In a recent case involving people fighting dogs, 13 pit bulls were seized. The dogs were summarily given a death sentence, without a behavioral evaluation, by the Mississippi Animal Rescue League and the Vicksburg-Warren Humane Society.
Georgia Lynn, Director of the Vicksburg-Warren Humane Society said the dogs were not adoptable. Debra Boswell, director of the Mississippi Rescue League described them as "ticking time bombs."
As we have seen in the Michael Vick case and the wonderful book, The Lost Dogs, all dogs deserve a chance. All puppies and dogs seized from cruelty cases, including fight busts, should undergo a behavioral evaluation and if they pass, placed for adoption.
Please sign the petition to stop the prejudice against victims of cruelty at the Mississippi Animal Rescue League and the Vicksburg-Warren Humane Society.
