News agencies recently revealed details of an interagency document produced by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The document reveals a proposal to restrict how the food industry markets junk food to children ages two to 17. While the FTC and FDA have both signed onto the proposal, the USDA is still withholding its endorsement.

Meanwhile, cartoon characters and other kid-friendly ads hawk foods containing high amounts of fats, sugars, and sodium. It's no wonder that as many as 33 percent of America's kids and teenagers are obese.

Tell the USDA it's time to stop pandering to food industry lobbyists. Sign this petition demanding that the agency sign onto the proposal that would restrict how junk food can be marketed to children.

Restrict Junk Food Ads Aimed At Children

Greetings,

News agencies recently revealed details of an interagency document produced by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The document reveals a proposal to restrict how the food industry markets junk food to children ages two to 17. It's come to my attention that while the FTC and FDA have both signed onto the proposal, the USDA is still withholding its endorsement.

Studies have already shown how effective ads are at hawking junk food to kids. One study from University College London says that junk food ads could contribute to as much as 40 percent of America's childhood obesity cases. Junk food ads needs to be restricted, especially considering that as many as 33 percent of the nation's kids and teenagers are obese.

Please sign onto the proposal that would limit how the food industry can market junk food to children. It's the only way we're going to start chipping away at the country's childhood obesity epidemic.
