The race for Suffolk County executive is officially underway, but one politician is missing from the headlines: In March, current Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy bowed out of the race and returned $4 million in campaign funds after the county district attorney’s office raised questions about improper fundraising within his campaign.
You’d think it would be time to regroup, maybe think about a second career, but Levy’s still trying to push local legislation targeting Suffolk immigrants. At a June 7 meeting of the Suffolk County Legislature, the county executive intends to introduce two employment verification bills, both of which would encourage discrimination against immigrant workers.
The Suffolk County Legislature needs to send a strong message to Levy that his penchant for anti-immigrant policies and rhetoric won't be tolerated anymore, even from a lame duck.
Sign this petition and tell the legislature to vote down these two bills, and to instead investigate the extent of Levy's corrupt fundraising.
Vote Down Anti-Immigrant Bills From Steve Levy
Greetings,
I'm writing to ask that you vote down two anti-immigrant bills that will be proposed by Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy and instead call for further investigation into corrupt fundraising by the county executive.
As you well know, Levy bowed out of the race for county executive and returned $4 million in campaign funds in late March after the county district attorney’s office raised questions about improper fundraising within his campaign.
Now the county executive is trying to mute the outrage around his fundraising misdeeds by proposing legislation that will target immigrants in Suffolk, and fuel anti-immigrant hatred. At a June 7 meeting of the Suffolk County Legislature, the county executive intends to introduce two employment verification bills, both of which would encourage discrimination against immigrant workers in the county.
The Suffolk County Legislature needs to send a strong message to Levy that his penchant for anti-immigrant policies and rhetoric won't be tolerated anymore, even from a lame duck.
I ask that you use your power as a legislator to vote down these two bills, and to instead call for an investigation into the extent of Levy's corrupt fundraising.
Enough is enough.
