On September 24, 2010, the Texas State Board of Education voted 7-6 to approve a new resolution that wants to limit references to Islam in textbooks. The resolution says the board "will look to reject future prejudicial social studies submissions." The resolution, which was accompanied by a list of perceived "anti-Christian" statements in Social Studies books -- including a mention in one book about sexism within medieval Christianity -- is a threat to reject any proposed textbooks suspected of containing "anti-Christian" or "pro-Islam" language.

Although the current board will not choose upcoming Social Studies texts, this symbolic resolution sends a message of hatred and ignorance to textbook publishers from the Lone Star State.

Robert Scott, the Texas Education Commissioner, serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Board. Tell him that fueling the fire of cultural exclusion is unacceptable. The anti-Islam resolution must be thrown out.
