In recent months, we have been forced to open our eyes to the awful truth about our dependence on fossil fuels. In April, 29 miners died in a coal mine in West Virginia. A couple weeks later, an explosion on a BP oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico killed 11 people and began spewing millions of gallons of crude oil into the water.

These disasters are predictable outcome of our reliance on coal and oil, as well as increasingly dangerous drilling and extraction practices. We must change course now to create the clean energy future we need to meet our energy needs safely and effectively.

Sign our petition to President Obama and Congress telling them that now is the time for action to stop new offshore drilling and end our addiction to fossil fuels.

America needs you to put stricter regulations in place for the coal and oil industries to make them safer and more accountable for the damage they do. A ban on new offshore drilling that prevents this threat from spreading to other areas of the country is desperately needed.

The President and Congress must make it a priority to pass legislation that will jumpstart the clean energy revolution. Half measures, loopholes, and giveaways to polluters won't cut it this time. Now is the moment for action.
