Tell Parliament ABA not Medically Necessary for Autistics!

Tell Parliament ABA not Medically Necessary for Autistics!
The Issue
Private Member's Bill C-218 amends the Canada Health Act to include Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) and Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI) as "medically necessary or required... for persons suffering from Autism Spectrum Disorders".
It encourages the use of treatments with a long history of abuse against Autistics, and encourages a medical model of disability towards Autistic individuals. Bill C-218 therefore encourages seeing Autistic people as diseased in need of being cured, or normalized, without addressing the real needs of Autistic people. This oppresses the natural talents and coping strategies of Autistic people, and excludes Autistics from being seen as whole human beings capable of be active members of Canadian culture and society.
