Tell NIH: Stop Hepatitis Testing on Chimpanzees

Tell NIH: Stop Hepatitis Testing on Chimpanzees
The Issue
NIH has moved 14 aging chimpanzees from their retirement facility to the Southwest National Primate Research Center to undergo hepatitis testing.
The United States is the only country in the world that continues to use captive chimpanzees for large-scale invasive research. Many studies have suggested that chimpanzees are a bad model to learn about human disease, and so the animals suffer needlessly.
Last year, the NIH suspended plans to transfer 186 chimpanzees who now live at the Alamogordo Primate Facility out of retirement and back into the lab. The NIH recognized that animal testing might not be warranted for these chimps. The 14 chimps at Southwest deserve the same consideration.
Sign the petition to tell NIH to return the 14 chimps to the Alamogordo Primate Facility where they can be left in peace.
