Let Maple Energy know that the world is watching.
Earlier this week, children bathing in the Mashiria River in the Peruvian Amazon realized there was oil in the water. Maple Energy, which was responsible for the spill, had not issued any statement. Even though the river is the native Shipibo community's main source of water and fish, Maple Energy failed to take any real action.
So far, Maple has only paid 32 community members to clean up the spill using buckets and rags without any training, protective equipment, or discussion on the health effects of oil.
Let Maple know that they need to clean up and pay up!
Maple Energy: Clean Up and Pay Up for Your Oil Spill in the Amazon!
To Whom It May Concern:
I recently learned of Maple Energy's oil spill in the ecologically sensitive Mashiria River in the Peruvian Amazon. I was very disturbed to discover that Maple Energy had not taken the appropriate action to clean up their spill and adequately compensate those who use the river as their main source of water and fish.
On your website you claim that, "Maple Energy is committed to achieving the highest environmental standards and respect for the communities in the areas in which it operates." Please demonstrate to the community that you have devastated that this is more than lip service. The world is watching.
Sincerely,
[Your name]
