Hershey's and Mars are among a number of food producers that use palm oil. While the ingredient gives candies like Snickers, Three Musketeers, and M&Ms their creamy textures, producing the stuff destroys rainforests in Indonesia and Malaysia.

While some palm oil producers create oil sustainably, others clear-cut rainforest and peatlands in order to plant oil palm plantations. Not only does this deforestation release greenhouse gas emissions, it destroys habitat for species like Sumatran rhinos and tigers, Asian elephants, gibbons, and tapirs. Oil palm plantations are especially devastating for orangutans, which already teeter on the brink of extinction. About 80 percent of Borneo and Sumatra's lowland rainforests--orangutans' main habitat--have disappeared in the past 20 years, largely due to oil palm plantations and logging.

Hershey's and Mars could help conserve rainforest in Indonesia and Malaysia by joining the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). RSPO members are required to use only certified sustainable palm oil. Sign our petition asking Hershey's and Mars to immediately join RSPO and eliminate unsustainable palm oil from their supply chains.

Stop Destroying Rainforest and Killing Orangutans

Greetings,

Many of your candies contain palm oil. While this ingredient makes chocolates taste good, creating palm oil oftentimes destroys rainforests in Indonesia and Malaysia.

In order to make sure candies don't come at the expense of invaluable species and rainforest, you need to make sure your palm oil comes from sustainable producers. Members of the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) are obligated to use only certified sustainable palm oil. Please join the RSPO and eliminate unsustainable palm oil from your supply chain.
