Earlier this year, Equality Delaware announced that they were working with Delaware lawmakers to introduce civil unions legislation in the state -- a move that would allow Delaware to join states like Illinois and Hawaii in recognizing many civil rights for same-sex couples. The goal of the legislation is to afford same-sex couples many of the civil rights that heterosexual, married couples receive in the state -- including inheritance rights, the ability to share insurance benefits, the ability for same-sex couples to raise a family together, and more.

Now this civil unions legislation is getting set for consideration in Delaware's state legislature, with potential for a vote very soon. A number of state lawmakers have signed on to co-sponsor the measure, and there seems to be healthy momentum to get civil unions legislation done in Delaware.
