Mexico is bleeding to death. The blood of over 40,000 Mexicans has been spilled in the "War on Drugs." Mexican citizens have begun a campaign to oppose this war, the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity. The war, begun by Mexican President Calderon in 2006, is supported directly by the U.S. through the Merida Initiative and in many other ways. At the same time, there is concern in the U.S. government that Mexico may become a "failed state."

The drug cartels that this "war" is trying to defeat - and that may well create a "failed state" - make billions of dollars each year in the illegal drug market in the U.S. This market is created and maintained by U.S. laws that prohibit the sale and consumption of these drugs. Thus, the blood of these 40,000 Mexicans is on the hands of the United States.

If there is to be no more blood spilled in Mexico and it is to be saved from "failing," the United States Congress must end drug prohibition and establish the regulated, legal sale of currently illegal drugs.

This petition is targeting the members of the two congressional committees that have ovesight of drug laws: the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Drugs and the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security.

Stop the Bleeding in Mexico - Legalize Drugs

Greetings,

I am writing to you in your capacity as a member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime.

Mexico is bleeding to death. The blood of over 34,000 Mexicans who have been killed in the "War on Drugs" is on our hands.

If there is to be no more blood spilled in Mexico and it is to be saved from "failing," the United States Congress must end drug prohibition and establish the regulated, legal sale of currently illegal drugs.
