Income Tax Proposal: Raise the Rate of the Top Bracket

For over thirty years the United States economic equilibrium has been dramatically unbalanced. This has created income-inequality and increased poverty in the lower class. Even a good portion of the middle class has been effected as well. A major reason for why this is happening is limited taxation on the upper class. Starting in the 1930's, the tax rate for the rich fluctuated between 70% and 90%. The country at this time was much better off financially. Unemployment numbers were down, standard of living was at an all time high and the wealthy stayed wealthy. However, in the 1980's a change went into effect that is still implemented to this day.

The Reagan administration lowered the income tax rate for the top bracket to 30%. Ever since, we have seen the upper class acquire most of the wealth and attribute to the great recession very significantly. Although this is a well acknowledged problem, the government has yet to change this detrimental error. This is why I propose to the President and to Congress that they raise the income tax rate for the top bracket back to 70% or more. This is essential to ending financial abuse and income inequality. I hope to see this problem solved for the sake of the country. Thank you.
