Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has kept very busy -- accepting gifts from organizations that file briefs before the court, attending political fundraisers, ruling on suits in which he or his wife has a conflict of interest, and hiding income from public disclosure.
With all that on his plate, it's no wonder he hasn't had time to ask a question from the bench in five years.
Clarence Thomas isn't the first judge in recent history to fail to live up to his office. In 2010, a federal judge named Thomas Porteous was impeached for charges of corruption. The year before, another federal judge named Samuel Kent was impeached for sexual assault and abuse of power. Finally, Attorney General Alberto Gonzals resigned after Congressman Jay Inslee and dozens of members of Congress signed on to a bill that would initiate impeachment investigations.
Now we need to find another member of Congress willing to stand up for the rule of law.
Take action today and urge your U.S. Representative to move to impeach Clarence Thomas.
Impeach Clarence Thomas
Greetings,
Justice Clarence Thomas has apparently engaged in more corrupt practices than did Thomas Porteous or Samuel Kent, both of whom Congress recently impeached.
Four years ago, a threat of impeachment helped lead to the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. A one-sentence bill (H. Res. 589) was instrumental. Altered to fit the current moment, that bill would read:
"Resolved, That the Committee on the Judiciary shall investigate fully whether sufficient grounds exist for the House of Representatives to impeach Clarence Thomas, Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors."
Please uphold the rule of law and introduce that bill right away.
