Tell Chattanooga City Government: Support the Right to Housing!

Tell Chattanooga City Government: Support the Right to Housing!
The Issue
We declare our support for public and low-income housing in Chattanooga, Tennessee. As residents, supporters, and allies, we oppose attempts to destroy the homes and communities of poor people, working people, and people of color. Our people will no longer continue to exist in these conditions of oppression. Therefore, we demand that Chattanooga City Hall and the City Council make the right to housing a key legislative priority.
Nearly two thousand people sit on closed waiting lists for public housing while over five thousand people wait for Section 8. In the past ten years, six public housing communities have been demolished. The rest are being considered for sale or destruction. Over 4,000 people experience homelessness every year in the Chattanooga region - with a root cause being unjust and economically-motivated eviction!
To address this crisis, we hereby issue the following legislative proposals:
1. For every unit of public housing torn down, another one must be built.
2. A one-for-one replacement for every public housing unit torn down in the last ten years.
3. All new housing developments must include low-income units.
