Tell "big tobacco" CEO to put his money where his mouth is
The Issue
We call on Louis Camilleri, the CEO of tobacco giant Philip Morris International, to stand by his statement that smoking is "not that hard to quit" by permanently giving up cigarettes and all tobacco products himself.
This petition is a response to comments Mr. Camilleri made at a shareholders meeting in New York on May 11. Mr. Camilleri said:
"We take our responsibility very seriously, and I don't think we get enough recognition for the efforts we make to ensure that there is effective worldwide regulation of a product that is harmful and that is addictive. Nevertheless, whilst it is addictive, it is not that hard to quit. ... There are more previous smokers in America today than current smokers."
Mr. Camilleri is apparently aware that the product is harmful and addictive. How better to stand behind that statement than by giving it up himself.
