Take the Wild Child Pledge!
The Issue
Today is Earth Day. What could be a better time to share our love of nature with the young people in our lives?
So, this weekend, Defenders of Wildlife have a challenge for you. They challenge you to get out of the house and get outside with a special young person in your life.
Let they know you're participating in their Earth Week Challenge by taking the Wild Child Pledge.
The future of our planet and of the amazing creatures we share it with will largely depend on how well we teach our children to seek out these special moments and build these connections with our wildlife and wild places.
In just one afternoon you can start a spark within a child that will never fade. Studies show that spending time in nature helps kids feel secure, happy and more focused in their daily lives.
This holds true for us adults, too. Spending time outdoors is restorative -- and a powerful reminder of our values. And in today's fast-paced world, taking the time to pause and reflect in nature is more important than ever.
So what are you waiting for? Get outside this weekend and help bring a sense of wild wonder to the special young people in your life. Don't forget to take photos to preserve your memories!
Let them know you're participating by taking the Wild Child Pledge and they'll follow up with you soon to hear more about your adventure.
While you're out in the world, take time to stop and smell the flowers, listen to the birds high in the trees, and watch for wildlife to scurry across your path. Encourage the children in your life to do the same: they will play a vital role in protecting these precious natural resources for generations to come.
Defenders of Wildlife will follow up with you soon so you can report back on what kinds of wildlife you saw, post the photos you took to preserve your special day, and share your favorite childhood memory of being outdoors. You could even be featured in their e-newsletter!
Take the Wild Child Earth Day Pledge today and help our children appreciate the great outdoors for a lifetime. After all, this Earth is the only home we've got -- and what a wonderful world it is.
Happy Earth Day to you and yours!
