Take action for 350.org
The Issue
350 is the highest atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide (in parts per million) that allows us to maintain life on earth as we know it. We need to convince government leaders worldwide to work to immediately reduce carbon dioxide emissions so we can GET BACK TO that concentration.
We're currently at about 387 ppm -- and the effects are already being felt....The residents of Karibati, a iny country in the Pacific islands, are already feeling the impacts of global warming. They are being forced to move their homes and some nations are already taking some of their citizens in as global warming refugees .... Arctic ice packs are melting at an alarming rate....Polar bears are having a tough time surviving, and other species are dieing off. Because of the "snowball" effect of changes in the earth's systems, climate change will happen at an ever-increasing rate.
We have to act fast to drastically reduce emissions and get back to a concentratin of 350, or our chances of escaping much more serious impacts of climate change are slim.
Members of our 350.org crew are currently attending two big international meetings-the G20 Economic Summit in London and the UN Climate Talks in Bonn, Germany. They went to these meetings for one reason: to hold world leaders accountable to science, justice, and the demands of global citizens.
While these talks are going on, the 350.org crew wants us to take as many actions as possible to raise awareness of this number. They are keeping a tally of actions being taken by global citizens, and want to reach a total of 350 actions. Go to the 350.org site, and see the wide range of actions being taken worldwide.
But first, take a pledge to support 350.org. This is my "action" I'm trying to accomplish to allow the 350.org people to add another number to their tally.
Then take an action of your own. Click here to get started: http://www.350.org/oct24
Even if you don't have your entire plan worked out, register anyway -you can always change the details later.
If we can get to 350 registered actions by the end of the meeting, we'll show world leaders and media that we have a growing global movement.
