Tailor the law to allow for the civilian and professional use of camouflage patterns and materials in fashion, arts, design, and personal style in a modern Barbados.

The Issue

Dear citizens of Barbados both young, old and in-between, I am making this petition as both a professional designer/artist and a concerned member of our civil society.

As the 'Minister Of Style,' I am equally interested in the safety and security of our nation as I am interested in a safe and reasonable expression of our personal aesthetics and style. Achieving both would represent a balanced and progressive move for a growing society that emphasizes creativity, innovation and out-of-the box thinking.

In our modern society, civilian camouflage is not a social threat to law and order at all.

Naturalists and artists first created camouflage patterns, then the army popularised it, and now fashion, art and design has democratized it by putting it on just about everything you can think of and placing it in everyone's hands including children. Although not recognised nor credited for it's impact, international fashion has effectively de-stigmatised camouflage clothing from it's rebellious and criminal associations across the globe and has even flipped it into a means of showing support and respect for a nation's armed forces in action. In simple terms, today EVERYBODY LOVES CAMO.

Civilians have no right to impersonate the army in their style of dress or deportment, period. This will still remain true. What will change however, is that everyone and their pet will be able to use and enjoy these amazing nature-based patterns, and noone will have to face embarassment, public disrobing, detention, fines nor imprisonment for the simple and harm-free fashionable use of camouflage in its myriad forms. It is reasonably clear to most people what impersonation is, what fashion is, and how they are different.

If we get a wide crossectiion of people supporting one another in making this change happen, we would have not only made our society a little bit more progressive but we would also have demonstrated that we as ordinary people do matter and actually do have the power to modify or change laws that are repressive, excessive, and shortsighted.

Naturally, the opposition is counting on us to just "talk talk talk, and do nothing" because that's our established habit as a people. But Not This Time!!!

This time we CAMO FLOW.

ADD YOUR VOICE to the petition and let's get this positive change on!

If we push hard, by next Christmas (you know it's gonna take time) we can all be enjoying and benefitting from the most globally strong and fashionably-relevant pattern to date - CAMOUFLAGE.

And we haven't even mentioned the amount of money that will be generated from design and retail in this island!!!

How curiously ironic, that the neglected ARTS if given the opportuity, could actually help save our economy!

SIGN and SHARE.

The pros always want numbers, so let's get this petition on crank and move our nation's FASHION FORWARD>>>
