We, the undersigned, call for the release of Ms. Karen Handel from her position as Senior Vice President for Public Policy for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The decision of Ms. Handel to cut funding to Planned Parenthood has brought unnecessary negative publicity to Komen, an organization that has generated critical awareness and research to bear on breast cancer. Politics and ideology have no place in organizations like the Komen for the Cure, which supports and is supported by people of all races, faiths and political persuasions. In her choice to make the person/political/ideological decision to end funding for Planned Parenthood, Ms. Handel has done untold damage to the reputation of Komen and betrayed the mission of the organization.
