Support New Jersey's Progressive Ban on Polluting Lawn Fertilizers

Support New Jersey's Progressive Ban on Polluting Lawn Fertilizers
The Issue
A progressive bill being considered in the Garden State could soon encourage suburban families to adopt greener lawn care methods and would force polluting products off the shelves.
According to The North Jersey Record, both supporters and opponents consider the legislation the "most comprehensive and prohibitive" nationwide in dealing with lawn fertilizer pollution.
The bill would essentially ban the use of major home lawn care products on the shelves today for containing too much nitrogen, a key fertilizer ingredient that's polluting New Jersey's Barnegat Bay and plenty of other state water bodies. Organic fertilizers, such as animal manure, would also be encouraged.
By helping fuel algae blooms in lakes and bays, nutrients from fertilizer runoff deplete coastal waters of oxygen and kills fish and other aquatic life. New Jersey's Barnegat Bay has one of the highest nutrient levels in the U.S.
New Jersey isn't the only state with this problem. Every summer, ever-more massive "dead zones" are cropping up in coastal water bodies including the Gulf of Mexico, the Long Island Sound, and the Chesapeake Bay.
The bill is now making its way through New Jersey's state legislature, but major lawn care companies are naturally fighting it. How about signing this petition to tell New Jersey you support this ban? The Garden State has a chance to set an example of greener lawn care methods for the rest of the nation.
