How We Won

Ten days ago Gigi and Mahmoud, two young Egyptian street activists and Change.org members, broke a communications blackout and called us from Cairo's Liberation Square to launch an international campaign over the phone. Just minutes ago, after a 30 year dictatorship, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak resigned.

In just 18 days, a coalition of Muslims and Christians, young, old, rich and poor came together to bring down a dictatorship of 30 years.

“I’m the happiest person alive and I can’t stop crying,” Gigi said. “I’m here in the square and it’s on fire! It’s just amazing. I went against the grain for so long and I even lost my family at one point because of all my activism - for the first time I feel like I did something right.”

“Thank you thank you thank you,” she added. “We could not have done it without the international solidarity, both from so many Change.org members and people in countries all over the world. I hope all of humanity is feeling the way Egyptians are feeling today.”

“I’m feeling so good,” Mahmoud said. “There is just so much happiness in the streets. People are literally jumping up and down. Everyone is jubilant and I just want to thank all of you so very much. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without you.”

On January 25, we the people of Egypt took to the streets to demand our rights! We are not unified by one party, class or religion: we are not Muslim and we are not Christian, we are not rich and we are not poor - we are the multifaceted people of Egypt - Muslims and Christian's and Egyptians of all classes.

We demand our civil, political and human rights.
We demand the immediate resignation of the president and parliament.
We demand a new constitution.
We demand free and fair elections.
We demand the complete and total release of all political prisoners and detainees.
We demand the return of open access to all communication networks.
We demand that the police stop shooting at us, stop their brutality and stop their attacks on journalists.

We are the January 25 movement, and we are not going to stop until our demands are met! We call on Egyptians and internationals to lend a hand and help us win by signing this petition, which will be sent to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, officials in the interior and foreign ministries, and Egyptian embassies all over the world.

ونحن نطالب بانتخابات حرة ونزيهة.

إننا نطالب بالإفراج الكامل والشامل عن جميع السجناء والمعتقلين السياسيين

و نطالب بارجاع فتح الاتصال لجميع شبكات الاتصالات والإنترنت

ونطالب الشرطة وقف اعتداءاتها على الصحفيين.

ونحن نطالب بأن الشرطة توقف إطلاق النارعلى المواطنين واستخدام العنف ضد المتظاهرين

نحن حركة 25 يناير، ونحن لن تتوقف حتى تتحقق مطالبنا!
