Support the German-American International School (GAIS) in Menlo Park, California by signing our petition!
The Issue
The Menlo Park City School District (MPCSD) will decide whether to terminate its 20+ year lease partnership with the German-American International School (GAIS) for the District owned O'Connor school site at its Regular Board meeting on April 9, 2013, 6:00pm at the District Board Room located at 181 Encinal Avenue, Atherton, CA 94027.
GAIS is the only German bilingual school that offers an International Baccalaureate (IB) program in the Bay Area - meaning over 300 students in preschool through 8th grade, representing nationalities from all corners of the world, will not find a comparable education. GAIS's low tuition also allows for economic diversity not typically found at other private schools.
If the MPCSD decides to terminate the lease with GAIS on April 9, 2013, GAIS will need to vacate its home of over two decades and find, permit, improve, and relocate to a new site by June 30, 2014 - just 15 months away. This presents a nearly impossible task in the current Silicon Valley real estate market.
Postponing this decision can also benefit MPCSD by providing it more time to find a solution that best meets MPCSD's short term and long term enrollment projections, while continuing to receive rent revenue from GAIS. It will allow MPCSD time to formulate a clear plan before taking action that will greatly affect the students at both GAIS and MPCSD.
