- According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the sum of benefits from farming in Sandoval, Bernalillo, Valencia and Socorro counties, counties within the MRGCD, is $134,795,000.
- There are approximately 31,435 irrigable acres in the South Valley of the Middle Rio Grande alone. This represents approximately 94,305 acre/feet in pre-1907 water rights. The enormous cultural and capital values of these water rights are irrefutable.
- Preserving the agriculture of the middle Rio Grande Valley promotes and supports valuable traditional cultural values surrounding agriculture as well as substantial financial benefits for the middle Rio Grande Valley.
- Many citizens in the MIddle Rio Grande have pre-1907 water rights that are being lost by forfeiture or abandonment or other means of transfer without full benefit to the citizens who hown them, simply becuase the MRGCD does not consider community acequias and side laterals to be part of their "plan", yet the MRGCD recives close to 13 million dollars in "collection revenues" much of which comes from people who does not receive a direct benefit from the MRGCD

PROTECT ACEQUIAS IN THE MIDDLE RIO GRANDE VALLEY
Greetings,
I just signed the following petition addressed to support Joint Memorial 15 to PROTECT ACEQUIAS IN THE MIDDLE RIO GRANDE VALLEY.
Some reasons why we need to pass Joint Memorial 15 is to start a process that will allow small farming to be revitalized to grow local organic food.
So a vote for Joint Memorial 15 is a VOTE to growing local food and to support small farming businesses that are providing food to APS, local growers markets, and local businesses.
