The Richmond Transit Riders Union calls on your support for the 'Transportation Policy Element' found in the January 6, 2011 Draft of the Chesterfield County Comprehensive Plan, specifically Chapter IV: Section T 2.2, calling for an increase of "...local and regional mobility and transportation choices by enhancing transit services and providing viable travel alternatives."
We support a Chesterfield County which is for better public transportation and connectivity to the Richmond Region, that is:
• reliable and responsive with expanded service to job centers, medical care, social services, retail, and recreational/cultural offerings,
• conscious of choice riders who are concerned about the environment,
• affordable and is accessible to low income residents,
• in support of Transit Oriented Development.

Support for Expanded GRTC Bus Service To Chesterfield, County!
Dear County Administrator, Supervisors, & Madame Clerk,
I am writing in support of the 'Transportation Policy Element' found in the January 6, 2011 Draft of the Chesterfield County Comprehensive Plan, specifically Chapter IV: Section T 2.2 calling for an increase of "...local and regional mobility and transportation choices by enhancing transit services and providing viable travel alternatives."
"About 88 percent of the Richmond region's commuters travel to and from work in a car, typically alone." - John Martin, president and chief executive officer of the Southeastern Institute of Research in Richmond.
However, without a car, many jobs are unreachable and many small business ideas unachievable. A growing number of jobs are located outside of urban centers on freeways, beltways and in suburban communities, areas with weak or non-existent public transportation.
Recognizing the growing transportation divide, I support the inclusion of both transit dependent and choice riders who deserve access to services and opportunities via an increase in local and regional mobility and transportation choices by enhancing transit services and providing viable travel alternatives.
Only through such developments can we begin to eliminate the transportation divide that bars us from uniting as a community with respect and dignity.
