Substitute Teachers = Exploited Class: Deserve Benefits, Unemployment Comp

The Issue

When a child's teacher is sick, on family or sick leave, or otherwise missing (sometimes for months), a substitute teacher is a lifesaver.    Substitute teachers are certified with a college degree. Many substitute teachers have Bachelors or Masters Degrees in Education.

Yet, substitute teachers are an exploited class of employee, with no regular employment status, no benefits, and no access to unemployment compensation.

Dignify the work of these teachers by bringing the plight of the substitute teacher to light.   Please sign this petition for substitutes to be recognized as regular employees with benefits, eligible for unemployment compensation.
