Deadly floods that have swamped nearly all of the Barangay's in Subic are less a natural disaster and more the result of poor planning, lax enforcement and political self-interest. The rivers in the area have not been dredged in years. The silt that remains in these rivers are a result of a lack of political will that allows houses to encroach upon the waterways. More time needs to be spent unclogging the existing drains and ensure that the riverways aren't filled up with debris that acts as a dam and allows the riverways to overflow their banks.
