Stop US Dependence on British Petroleum (BP)!

Stop US Dependence on British Petroleum (BP)!

The Issue

The Gulf of Mexico is being destroyed by the current oil spill, and what are we as Americans considering as a logical response? We are boycotting BP, we are demanding that BP clean up it's mess, we are telling BP to pay for the lost income of our citizens, and we are seeking justice. And while all these things needs to happen, I think more importantly the single message we are failing to convey is that we will absolutely NOT put up with this behavior from oil companies.

We need to shut down BP on American soil. We need to tell them that we do not wish to associate with a company that cares so little about our ecological and economical welfare. There are other oil companies out there who we can employ, and by refusing BP oil, we are stating that we want our oil companies to take these issues seriously.

In addition, what is BP's clean-up solution? Some of it is being burned off - which will only deplete the ozone. Some of it is being sprayed with a dispersement - which sinks it to the ocean floor, increasing the devastation of the natural habitat. And a small amount is being skimmed off - the only reasonable method, even if it does take more time and money. What BP is doing may not only obstruct the lives of the wildlife and citizens of the Gulf, but could ultimately destroy the planet we live on entirely. This is not acceptable, and we need to make a stand that says, "We're not giving you the opportunity to do this ever again." We need the United States to stop buying BP oil completely.

Vegas PetersonPetition StarterI don't really follow any certain political party, or religion. I just do what feels like the right thing to do. I didn't really like Bush as our president, but now that it's Obama, I miss Bush. I believe that legalizing/decriminalizing marijuana-hemp would solve a ton of issues, from our over-crowded prisons to our economy to medical ailments. I wish everyone (especially the governments) would consider our environmental impact more, since without an environment we would all die. BP makes me sick, watching coverage on the oil spill makes me want to cry. Why, oh, why would we even consider spraying chemicals on the oil to disperse it to the ocean floor? They say it's to save the birds, but without their food source they're already dead. It looks like the beginning of the end for us...
