Stop "Pre-Existing Conditions" First

The Issue

I am a completely for Universal Health Care, but as the past has proven, it will be near impossible to go from what we currently have straight to free health care. So what I am proposing is to start small, but effective by not only stopping "pre-existing conditions" from taking place, but making them illegal.

If congress were to pass a bill that makes it illegal for Health insurers to deny coverage to people simply because of pre-existing conditions, then maybe we could begin a path towards universal health care.

Now, just making illegal wouldn't be enough. We should make it so that if someone is denied coverage simply due to a "pre-existing condition", then said health insurer would be fined $1,000,000. And these monies would be used to pay for whatever said person needed, and the excess funds would be used to help insure those who are less fortunate and could not afford insurance. Or it could be used to open more free clinics, or something useful like that.

Something like this should have been taken down a long time ago, but the main reason it hasn't is because there are over 3,000 Health Care lobbyists in D.C. alone. Which roughly averages about 5 to 6 lobbyists to ever 1 congressman. A very troubling statistic, but also very easy to weed out.

All the president has to do is wait for the senators and congressmen to speak out against this idea. Then it is magically revealed how much money the Health Insurance companies have given to said politician, to point out who he really cares about. Thus said politician is no longer seen as credible. I mean come on, whoever says that pre-existing conditions is a good idea should be diagnosed with cancer and denied coverage for chemo. Then maybe they could have real perspective.

The main reason I'm starting this almost pointless petition is because I feel that our final goal should be Universal Health Care, but we have to lay a solid foundation of what that will be about. We should do this by routing out the major problems in health care first, and that is denial of care. How can a doctor take the hypocratic oath and do no harm, yet be told by the Health Insurance companies that they cannot treat someone. It's inhumane.
