Stop Multinationals Dodging Tax in Developing Countries

Stop Multinationals Dodging Tax in Developing Countries
The Issue
Summer’s here, and Australia’s heating up (sorry Northerners. Don't mean to rub in...). Time to pop open a frosty cold bottle of beer. But before you down your icy bottle of Peroni or Grolsch, ponder this…
SABMiller – owner of both these global brands and the world’s second biggest brewer – siphons millions in profits from developing countries into tax havens. By reporting far lower profits, multinationals like SABMiller end up paying far less tax – and in some cases, avoid taxes all together.
ActionAid has just launched a campaign exposing SABMiller’s tax dodging practices in poor countries. We want folks to enjoy their brewskis responsibly – it’s the festive season after all. But we’d love you guys to take a quick action and tell the megacorps that they can’t take advantage of developing countries.
ActionAid has found evidence of SABMiller practicing tax dodging in Ghana, Mozambique, Tanzania, South Africa, Zambia and India, enabling them to avoid paying an estimated $32 million in income tax.
Governments could spend this revenue on schools, hospitals, infrastructure and other vital services, making poor countries less reliant on foreign aid.
Click here to tell SABMiller that they should pay their taxes everywhere, give the developing countries a fair go – and make your beer taste even better!
Thanks for being part of the solution.
