Stop the Exclusion of LGBTs from the Anti-Discrimination Bill

Stop the Exclusion of LGBTs from the Anti-Discrimination Bill

The Issue

Senate Bill 2814 is a bill that ,if passed, prohibits any racial, ethnic, religious, sex, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination under any circumstances. However recently the Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines is looking to eliminate the " sex, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity" part of the bill simply because they believe that by including LGBTs and other such gender identities in the bill they are paving the way for more gay right and gay marriage, which to the church is unacceptable. The say that people who are of the " third sex" do not deserve and should not be placed on the same level as others stated on the bill simply because they believe that sexuality is a choice. Though it is debatable whether or not sexuality is a choice, whether or not it is or it isn't should not be grounds for excluding LGBTs from the anti-discrimination bill. The message they send here is that IT IS OKAY TO DISCRIMINATE AGAINST PEOPLE OF THIS KIND BECAUSE IT IS THEIR "CHOICE" TO BE THIS WAY. Discrimination opens the doors to harassment and bullying and by excluding LGBTs from the bill this is what the Philippine Government is possibly opening them up to. If you believe this is wrong, and LGBTs should still receive equal amount of protection with the ones mentioned on the bill against discrimination then please sign this petition. It's time for change and for society to be more free and accepting of one another. Someone's sexuality should not be grounds for discrimination. Your signature and help would greatly be appreciated and go a long way.
