Stop the Destruction of Our Southeastern Forests for Fuel

The Issue

Energy companies like Enviva exploit our beautiful southeastern wetland forests to produce wood pellets, then ship these pellets across the ocean so they can be burned for electricity in European power plants! Wetland forests are some of America’s most endangered ecosystems, and provide critical habitat for imperiled species. Cutting these precious forests hurts local residents, destroys pristine natural habitats, threatens wildlife, and increases carbon pollution. Now Enviva is looking to expand further by building a wood pellet export facility at the Port of Wilmington, which could double the amount of trees they are using to produce pellets.

Why should our natural resources be destroyed to fuel European power plants?

Help stop this madness. Tell the State Environmental Review Clearinghouse that the North Carolina Ports Authority should fully assess the project's environmental impacts and ensure the public has a voice on this project.
