The residents of Bay Village, Ohio and surrounding communities, are outraged that Mayor Deborah Sutherland has made a decision to eliminate the Animal Control Officer position, will soon be closing the city's unattended "kennel"  to build a truck wash, and has started sending all stray or unaccompanied pets to high kill "shelters" in other communities. After being held at the "kennel" for 24 hours or less,  city dogs are then picked up and taken to the Cuyahoga County Kennel which has a kill rate of 40%.  City cats are being sent to Rocky River Kennel which has a kill rate of 75 %.  Those animals who have the misfortune to find themselves loose in Bay Village are at high risk of being KILLED by these "Shelters".  Mayor Sutherland has decided to abandon the animals of Bay Village.  Residents have been raising money to support the construction of a new shelter. They want their lost pets to stay in Bay Village where their owners can find and claim them. They also ask that the Animal Control Officer, who for many years has kept the city  NO-KILL, is re-hired to compassionately capture and care for the animals until they are claimed.  We hope that animal lovers will take one minute of their time to sign this petition.
