Crows are one of Rochester's natural treasures. Whatever health risks their large numbers may pose, we the undersigned feel strongly that these birds enhance the quality of life in this city more than they detract from it. On a deep personal level, their presence enriches our daily experience of living here. Their prolonged absence would be a loss to us, the members of this community who find value, inspiration, and wonder in their behaviors. We urge City Council and city administrators to reconsider the current campaign to use scare tactics to frighten the birds into leaving the city, and to explore alternate, less drastic methods of trying to facilitate roosting spots for them away from Washington Square Park. WE ALSO FEEL IT IS VITAL FOR CITY COUNCIL TO MAKE A GREATER EFFORT TO SOLICIT PUBLIC DISCUSSION AND APPROVAL BEFORE MAKING ANY DECISIONS THAT AFFECT THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR COMMUNITY RESIDENTS.
