Stop Rezoning Project on Cloverdale Road

Stop Rezoning Project on Cloverdale Road
The Issue
The residents of Florence petition the Florence City Council to deny the proposed rezoning of Barnett Family Property on Cloverdale Road. The rezoning is requested for the purpose of constructing a Walmart Super Center with three additional out parcels; all of which will be accessed only from Cloverdale Road. It is our concern that this project will create multiple issues that will be disruptive to the area.
Established residential developments provide security, tranquility and well sought character to our city. Allowing B-2 (any type business) zones to be adjacent to R-1 (single family residential) zones is detrimental to the growth and well being of the community.
This zoning does not comply with the city's established comprehensive plan which is intended to help Florence residents, property owners, merchants, builders and developers invest in the city by providing a reasonable expectation of the city’s future. By it's own description, the Comprehensive Plan recognizes the value of the city’s underlying natural resource base and its history and traditional community values. The plan will guide development by balancing growth and the conservation of important natural resources. The city’s activity centers concentrate a diversity of functions at appropriate locations, structured by overall citywide open space and accessibility systems. Land uses that are located, planned and designed to be compatible with this system of critical environmental resources will be supported and encouraged to provide opportunities for creativity, efficiency, stability, image and diversity.
This plan is intended to promote and preserve our city. The extreme zoning request will void all efforts of this plan as well as cause multiple other issues for our local communities and government.
