Stop paper wastage, delivered by our postal service, everyday in our mail boxes!
Stop paper wastage, delivered by our postal service, everyday in our mail boxes!
The Issue
Are you sick and tired of getting flyer after flyer of grocery store ads and fast-food coupons, EVERYDAY, delivered into your mail box? In which, I'm sure, most of us do not recycle that paper, and just throw it away. It's 2011 people! We need to be thinking about the future of our planet and environment, and EVERYTHING should be being recycled!
The U.S. Postal Service delivered approximately 63 billion pieces of third-class mail in 1990 - just imagine what that number would be at, today! An estimated 5 million trees were used to produce all of 1990s third-class mail. An estimated 10 billion pieces of third-class mail were discarded without being opened.
Americans dump 180 million tons of garbage annually -- more than 40% of which is paper. High-grade printing, copying and writing paper is the largest single component in a landfill.
Americans throw away enough office and writing paper annually to build a wall 12 feet high stretching from Los Angeles to New York.
Every day American businesses generate enough paper to circle the Earth 20 times.
Every year each American household receives an average of 1.5 tree's growth of bulk mail advertising -- commonly known as "junk mail."
In conclusion, if at least, we can't get the post office to stop this, please pass along my petition, to at least, alert others, about this important problem, and to, at least, get them to start recycling their paper supply of junk ads, and other miscallenous spam mail, we all receive.
Lastly, there is a website out there which does allow you to stop getting this type of mail. It looks like you may need to pay them, and I'm not sure, just how valid it is, but it's worth checking out, and maybe, even worth spending the $20.

Thanks for reading, passing along, and continuing to recycle!!!!
