Stop Pacific Power exhorbitant prices

Medford, OR, United States
Created January 3, 2012

The Issue

Pacific Power has a long history of further suppressing the impoverished individual here in Southern Oregon. They, most importantly, hold a monopoly over us. We have no other utility company to choose from and therefor are left at their mercy. They attempted to subdue us and sidetrack the monopoly issue by offering us other sustainable power options. Unfortunately the other options we can choose from are substantially more expensive than the basic model most of us already use. A large portion of people in Southern Oregon are already on payment plans with this corporation and many have been for years with no end in sight as their incorrigible prices force us to keep adding to it. There are only three local agencies that can provide assistance, and these are only available for one bill every two years. Access, Salvation Army, and St. Vincent DePaul’s funds would be hugely affected with substantial price DECREASES. With the extra funds that are no longer needed to feed the greed of Pacific Power, they will be better prepared to fund homes for the homeless, treatment for addicts, medical care for veterans and Christmas for children. Pacific Power counters this by requesting that home owners go green to reduce their bill, we counter that by stating statistical data on the employment and housing issues here in Southern Oregon. A large part of our population is unemployed and a larger portion is renters. Only homeowners have the ability to convert to such things as solar panels. As well Pacific Power has a long history of price increases, this year it is 4.4 percent, with no other utility company to subscribe to and no competition we are forced to bend to their will and pay their exorbitant prices. People in Southern Oregon commonly pay up to a third of their wages to this company during all seasons. Southern Oregon has a plentitude of hard working, yet impoverished people, who can no longer afford to put their lives, children and medical wellness after their power bill. Each year Pacific Powers revenue totals between 1-5 billion dollars, most of which is quite literally stolen from local constituents paying in upwards of 250.00 dollars for their monthly utility bill. We needed to end this long ago, but now is a time to start. Power to the people! (Without emptying wallets:)

Randi BrockPetition StarterI am a mom of one little boy (6). I am a CNA and spend most my life helping other people. I dont make much and I struggle from time to time and frankly I'm sick of corprations taking advantage of it. I think that everyone has the right to be themselves and live without fear. I started my current pettition because of the need for reform in our utilities billing practices and their negative effect on the community.
