Chile is host to the world's highest, driest, desert -- as if the Saudi Arabia of Solar.  Technologies exists for tapping into it.  Yet CHILE has just signed an MOU with U.S. Nuclear INDUSTRY, even amid the Japanese meltdowns of nuclear reactors due to earthquakes.  The MOU promotes education and training of Chileans for installing nuclear into their country.  CHILEANS have long resisted nuclear energy for their country's energy needs precisely because of the unknowns related to their highest order earthquake risks.  The largest earthquake in recorded history happened in Chile in the '60s at 9.7 on the Richter scale.

Chile's seismic risks are worse than Japan's in all respects.  Large scale solar thermal technology is now (2011) proven to be LESS COSTLY than new nuclear according to U.S. DOE Amortization rates for utility scaled plants.

NUCLEAR IS NOT GREEN ENERGY.  Surely President Obama and Pinera can agree to look forward, not backwards for their energy needs and stop being influence by the nuclear lobby. 

Profoundly, George Schulz, Sam Nunn, and William Perry all three agree that our global civilization is not responsible nor collectively ethical enough to enjoy the benefits of NUCLEAR ENERGY.  They fear the ramifications of nuclear dirty waste proliferation, among its other ill effects such as use as weaponry.

Let us all stand with these Elder Statesmen and let President Pinera of Chile and President Obama of the United State know that it is time to turn from business as usual and stop cowering to the Nuclear Lobby in their White House Living Rooms.  Nuclear is not new; it is status quo.  We call on President Pinera to resist all contracts with U.S. and French Nuclear firms for solving his nation's energy shortages.  Solar Thermal is the answer.  Start building.
