Horses are beloved pets and an iconic symbol of the West. People form bonds with horses unlike any other animal; they are not meant to be slaughtered and eaten. Horses live happy lives with owners who love them and they should not be thrown into a life of torture and pain. Horses are intelligent and should not be wasted. Slaughtering a horse is almost as slaughtering a human. They don't only think instinctively like other animals, but they also think cognitively. Horse meat rots faster than any other meat and is the hardest to find. It is unethical and difficult to slaughter horses. There is no reason to support this effort and it needs to be stopped before thousands of intelligent animals are put through this. They feel, perceive, judge, overcome challenges, and they remember.
