Stop Duello Road Phase 2 Changes

The Issue

St. Charles County (SCC) initially planned to widen and continue Duello Road straight from the bridge, beside Duello Elementary School, behind Twin Fawn Estates and Dove Meadows, to meet at Highway N.  This is the plan that has been posted on SCC website until recently/March 2011.

The new plan was introduced in one meeting as a “done deal”, February 24, 2011, without contacting homeowners’ prior/during planning stages, or even discussing the new plan with home/land owners from which land is needed to construct the new road/curve.

The new plan does not appropriately address the dangerous intersections at Duello/N and Duello/Orf and will bring more traffic/speeding with the new curve.

If sidewalks are constructed (as proposed in the new/revised plan), it is possible the Wentzville School district will no longer provide bus service to local Duello Elementary students within 1 mile (as the crow flies). This will increase school traffic as well.

SCC’s new plan appears to be a political favor for 2 Rivers Church, who is the only beneficiary.  2 Rivers Church gains road frontage and possibly utility connections at SCC taxpayer’s expense.

SCC’s new plan will negatively impact our property values, increase traffic and road noise, and pilfer our privacy with vehicle lights and noise invading our homes.

Many Crimson Oaks homeowners purchased their properties with the initial road project in mind, never dreaming SCC would secretly change the plan, adding a new curve/stretch of road behind Duello Elementary School and the Crimson Oaks subdivision.

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to STOP the new Duello Road Phase 2 construction plan and revert back to the original plan, or simply improve the existing Duello Road without introducing a new section/curve behind Duello Elementary School and Crimson Oaks subdivision.
