Provide bins on site so that customers can recycle their cups/wrappers.

The Issue

Starbucks sells an immense volume of goods in packaging which can easily be recycled, and yet, not a recylcing bin in sight! The cups boast they are made in part from post-consumer goods, and that's where it stops. On to the landfill! A great portion of the products Starbucks sells are consumed by the customer on location; this is an ideal opportunity to reduce waste and it is missed. Just give them somewhere to put it! The waste leftover from what they sell consists primarily of simple plastic cups, paper cups, and paper bags. These are not complex items to sort and collect. A bin by the door would make recyling for the customer no more difficult than a flick of the wrist. Furthermore it would raise awareness and contribute to the normalcy of the practice of sustainability. If Starbucks intends to remain committed to a "green" business model, which I believe their customers have so far responded to, they must try to expand that thinking to all levels. This should be an easy step, and yet its environmental impact would not be minimal. Where it is difficult for an individual to count what effect they might have after a lifetime of recycling on their own, Starbucks would be able to sum up in tons after a single year.
