Cuts in the Genesee County Health Department’s budget could mean the potential closure of the STD/HIV clinic, elimination of the Fetal Infant Mortality Review Program, and the consolidation of the WIC program to one service site for the entire county.  

Currently Genesee County ranks the second highest county in the state with reported cases of gonorrhea and syphilis, and the third highest county in the state with reported cases of chlamydia.  

Reducing access to WIC services to one clinic for the entire county will mean a delay for new enrollees to access nutrition education and WIC benefits and increased wait times for the current 13,465 plus current enrollees. 

These cuts will harm working families and the most vulnerable populations in our community.  This can also have long term implications on economic development and attracting new residents and companies.  Many companies factor the public health of a community when looking to relocate or start their businesses.
