Over the past two decades and after years of internal conflicts, Colombia has made great strides to reduce violence while increasing public safety and emerging as a key global player.  As recent as 4/23/12, TIME magazine described Colombia as the comeback nation. The recent incident with the secret service and prostitution does not accurately reflect the state of a nation and its people. Prostitution does exist in many places around the world, including the U.S. However, for Spirit Airlines to single out a city as prostitution paradise in efforts to promote travel and increase its revenue, it’s simply repugnant.

Cartagena, Colombia was listed recently as one of the new paradise travel destinations around the world. With its colonial architecture, beautiful Caribbean beaches, resorts, amazing night life and friendly locals the city offers a great range of possibilities for visitors. Prostitution is not one of them.

Spirit Airlines, once again has proven how low it can go in efforts to make a profit. It is simply tasteless, despicable and as Colombians we ask that you stop this promotion. There are many other positives things Cartagena can offer that can easily be used to promote travel.
