Pass South Carolina's House Bill 3201 to protect our children!

The Issue

Right now, the workers in childcare facilities do not have to attend any specialized training for dealing with children for the first six months of working in a child care setting. They only have to have OSHA training and a all childcare facilities must have some workers trained in CPR. However, no training of safe discipline practices or how to create a safe environment for children are necessary for the first six months of working in a childcare setting. Childcare facilities that claim to be religious institutions do not even have to obtain licenses, and neither do facilities open only four hours or less per day. Also, the laws in South Carolina do not require that schools obtain parent permission before administering corporal punishment to children. While the few schools that still administer corporal punishment do obtain parent permission before administering it, it is important to update the outdated laws that would allow a school to forgo the parent permission for the future safety of our children. Please look at the bill at this website: http://www.schouse.gov/sess119_2011-2012/bills/3201.htm and be sure to sign the petition to let our legislatures know how we feel!
