Sign WildCare's Petition to Revoke the Sharpshooting Permit
The Bad News:
The Homeowners Association at Rossmoor voted 3 to 2 to go forward with the use of the sharpshooting permit to kill 50 Acorn Woodpeckers!
The Good News:
The shooting has not yet been carried out and WildCare is lobbying Fish and Wildlife to revoke the permit!
Sign our new petition below directed at the Fish and Wildlife Service and also to California Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher's office. We may have time to save the woodpeckers!

Please Revoke the Permit to Shoot Fifty Acorn Woodpeckers at Rossmoor!
I am writing to respectfully ask you to revoke the depredation permit granted to the Rossmoor senior adult community Homeowners Association to shoot fifty Acorn Woodpeckers in a wild colony that has damaged buildings in the Rossmoor complex.
Experts in woodpecker biology have demonstrated that this culling will not solve the Rossmoor's woodpecker problem and will only result in the needless deaths of individual birds and inhumane stress on the colony.
I urge the Department of Fish and Wildlife to revoke this permit and allow a long term solution that is both non-lethal and humane to be found. Non-lethal methods of deterrence have not been properly instituted and the advice of experts has been ignored in this case. The problems arose because of habitat destruction and poor environmental planning.
I know that revoking a depredation permit is a serious step, but in this case wildlife experts believe it to be justified. Scientific evidence overwhelmingly demonstrates that shooting these birds will not end the damage done to the community's buildings. Only long-term deterrents and new habitat for the birds will eliminate the problem for which the permit has been issued.
Please revoke the permit and require that the Rossmoor Homeowners Association allow wildlife experts to assist them in humanely preventing further damage to their buildings.
